"Sylvia is a wonderful humor writer. Yes, this book does help readers with coming to terms with the reality that they never want children, but you will turn the pages grinning, definitely be prone to giggling or even laughing out loud, as I did."

Laura Carroll, author of "Families of Two"

"Every woman -- and man -- will be able to relate to everything Sylvia D. Lucas profoundly, and often humorously, says about parenthood. No Children, No Guilt is a no-holds-barred must-read for everyone who is thinking about having children, isn't thinking about having children, wants children, doesn't want children, has children, or doesn't have children."

Jerry Steinberg, Founding Non-Father Emeritus of NO KIDDING!
__________

"Oh, don't worry," they say when you tell them you don't want children. "You'll change your mind." (Pat on knee.)

What does it mean to be ‘sure’ you don’t want children? Aren’t you supposed to want them? What if the person you're in love with wants them? And why do you feel so guilty for not wanting them?

From the shocking abuse of her childhood doll to the demise of two marriages, Sylvia shares her vibrant humor and offers insight into what it really means to be child-free - without the guilt.

All it takes is

- Accepting your disinclination toward motherhood
- Recognizing you will be looked at funny
- Understanding that you will, in some ways, be a perpetual child (but who's complaining?)
- Being prepared for people to think they know you better than you know yourself
- Knowing it could mean losing the person you love
- Finding a partner who doesn't want children and never will

No Children No Guilt eBook Sylvia D Lucas

Lucas' story sounded like it could have been mine, as do her reasons for becoming a "non-mom." While many of the childfree are staunch "rah-rah" defenders of their decision, Lucas takes a less aggressive approach. She *does* admit to having the occasional, small doubt. Particularly moving is her reaction to her husband's vasectomy (been there, done that too, Sylvia -- you're not the only one who felt a little sad about it). She unflinchingly (and humorously) describes how her childfree decision led to the breakdown of her marriage -- and she is spot on when she writes about the difficult in finding a life mate. Funny without being acerbic, thoughtful, and highly thoughtful, "No Children, No Guilt" takes a refreshingly honest approach to being childfree. I only wish that this book would have been twice as long. To the author, I say, "Thank you for sharing your life experiences."

In my opinion, this book is geared towards a specific personality type, and is bias. Unfortunately it didn't help me in my situation.
exactly what i needed to hear. Hysterical ways of putting things that you can never see to explain quite right to others! Very good read for ladies in the "child free" path
The author brings up some great insights for not feeling guilty about being child-free. The author is genuine and straightforward. An easy, fun read that can be completed in a day.
I appreciated this authors honest look at what many of us who do not want children deal with on a regular basis- the questions from others. It's a good and easy read.
This was just the book I needed. As a woman that just turned 30 & recently gotten married after 6 1/2 years of dating, the pressure to have kids has already begun. We've heard from countless people telling us we'll be great parents, but neither one of us is convinced. I was looking for a different perspective, something from someone that has made the decision to not have kids & how they've dealt with the pressure & the freedom! Even though we haven't decided, this book helped me greatly & it was definitely worth the read.
I have had so many of these thoughts and this book helped me to realize that I am not alone in the world. I am 27 years old and as of right now, I do not want children and I never have had the urge. My husband and I have discussed it as well and he is unsure too. This book helped me to realize that it is my body and my life and I have the right to choose what I want. I shouldn't feel pressured.

Very well written and at times very funny!!!
This short book is very nice. It's written in a light, humorous style. I appreciated the author sharing her life experiences. If you're looking for a self-help book, this isn't it. I think some of the more negative reviewers might have been expecting something of that nature. I went in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. If you want something that will reinforce your good feelings about the choice you've made not to have kids, and how it's often difficult as a woman to be transparent about it with others without feeling like a freak, it's a nice read. It can be read in just a few hours, depending on how fast you read. I snagged it while it was free, but the current price for it now isn't bad. )
